“Unpretty Rapstar” Is Back With a Twist — A New South Korea-Japan Joint Season Called “Hip-Pop Princess”
It’s official — Unpretty Rapstar is making a comeback! And this time, it’s got a whole new flavor. The show’s returning as a South Korea-Japan collaboration with a fresh season titled “Unpretty Rapstar: Hip-Pop Princess.”
On April 23rd, Mnet dropped a teaser on their official YouTube channel. The clip’s called “Hip-Pop Princess: Apply to the unprecedented hip-Pop group!” and it’s already got fans buzzing. The video shows off rap snippets from past Unpretty Rapstar contestants, hyping up what’s to come and giving all the details on how to audition for the new season.
So, who can apply? Basically, if you’re a girl born before January 1, 2012, and you’re from South Korea, Japan, or anywhere else in the world, you’re good to go. Doesn’t matter if you’ve debuted before or if you’re signed to an agency — you’re still welcome to apply.
The deadline to submit your application is June 30th at 11:59 PM, so don’t sleep on it.
Applicants can audition in rap, dance, or vocals — just make sure you send in a video that shows off your skills. Starting April 30th, you’ll be able to apply through Mnet’s official app, Mnet Plus. Only those who pass the initial document review will hear back from the team.
The folks behind Hip-Pop Princess shared a bit more about what this season’s all about: “Unpretty Rapstar is returning with a new season as a South Korea-Japan collaboration survival show. We are looking for girls to join the beginning of a unique hip-Pop group that will be born from the meeting of hip-Pop, K-pop, and J-pop.”
If you’re a longtime fan, you probably remember that Unpretty Rapstar first aired back in 2015. Season 3 wrapped up in 2016, so this new season’s coming about nine years later — and yeah, people are seriously hyped.
Unpretty Rapstar: Hip-Pop Princess is set to premiere in October. Stay tuned!
