The romance blooming between Koo Do-won (played by Jung Joon-won) and Oh Yi-young (played by Go Youn-jung) in Resident Playbook just hit a snag—and it’s all thanks to a new face in the hospital.
In episode 7 of the tvN weekend drama Resident Playbook, which aired on May 3rd, a new love triangle started to take shape with the arrival of Ham Dong-ho (played by Kim E-joon), a third-year resident specializing in anesthesiology and pain medicine. Just as Koo Do-won was finally starting to respond to Oh Yi-young’s sweet and bold gestures, viewers got thrown a curveball.
Things got tense when Koo Do-won saw Oh Yi-young and Ham Dong-ho hugging in the OR hallway after an intense emergency surgery. His face basically froze in that moment. And as if that wasn’t enough, the ending scene showed Ham Dong-ho offering his umbrella to Oh Yi-young, who was standing in the rain on the rooftop. He even asked her out in the most subtle way, saying, “Let’s eat when you return the umbrella.” That totally cranked up the curiosity around how this love triangle is gonna unfold.
While the romantic plot is heating up, Kim E-joon—who plays Ham Dong-ho—is also grabbing attention. He made his debut in the 2020 web drama Where Your Eyes Linger, and also showed up in the film Nothing Serious. Fans are pretty excited to see how he meshes with Jung Joon-won and Go Youn-jung in this role.
Meanwhile, Resident Playbook continues to follow the journey of first-year OB-GYN residents at Jongno Yulje Medical Center. It dives into the lives and growth of young doctors like Oh Yi-young, Pyo Nam-kyung (Shin Si-a), Um Jae-Il (Kang You-seok), and Kim Sa-bi (Han Ye-ji). Along with their personal and professional development, the Koo Do-won–Oh Yi-young romance has been one of the main hooks pulling viewers in.
As for ratings, the show pulled a nationwide average of 5.3% (according to Nielsen Korea), which is a slight dip from the previous week’s 5.5% recorded on April 27th.
