The Burning Sun Scandal How Seungri Jung Joon young Choi Jong hoon Abused Power

The dark sides of key figures in the ‘Burning Sun Scandal’, including former Big Bang member Seungri, singer Jung Joon-young, and former FT Island leader Choi Jong-hoon, have once again been exposed through prominent international media outlets.

On the 19th, the British public broadcaster BBC News released a documentary titled ‘Burning Sun – Exposing the secret K-pop chat groups‘ on a Korean YouTube channel. Additionally, the documentary, with English subtitles under the title ‘K-pop scandal: Exposing the secret chat groups,’ was also published on a YouTube channel with 16 million subscribers.

Warning: This article contains graphic descriptions of sex*al assault and violence.

The video showed a shocking scene where Seungri forcefully dragged a woman’s wrist at a party. Despite the woman clearly expressing her refusal and resistance, Seungri aggressively insisted, “Be quiet, follow me,” even raising one hand as if to grab a knife, all captured on camera.

Reporter Kang Kyung-yoon, who first reported on the ‘Burning Sun Gate’ group chat, remarked, “Seungri seemed like a boss figure among them.” BBC News also noted, “Being a member of the most successful K-pop group, Big Bang, gave Seungri tremendous power.”

Kang stated, “Seungri believed he had enough influence not only in Korea but also in China and the United States, at least enough for the Gangnam club scene to move for him.” He added, “Like the character Gatsby in the movie ‘The Great Gatsby,’ Seungri succeeded at a young age, throwing extravagant parties for everyone. So, he compared himself to Gatsby and gave himself the nickname ‘Seungatsby.’ Seungri had investors in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China. When he went there with his reputation, he could meet the wealthiest people and gain significant business opportunities. It seems like he thought, ‘With this, I can become one of the most famous rich men in South Korea.'”

In particular, Kang criticized, “In a way, Seungri used women as tools to attract investment from his wealthy acquaintances.”

Furthermore, regarding Choi Jong-hoon, Jung Joon-young, and others, Kang revealed, “They invited a female friend of Choi Jong-hoon and her friends to a ski resort. They drank together until the women lost all memory. In that situation, illegal recordings came out in Jung Joon-young’s group chat. There were videos of men and women having sex*al interc*****, taken from behind the door as if it were a joke. The contents were enough to raise suspicion that the women were completely unaware.”

Additionally, a pattern of sex*al assault emerged. Kang reported, “On the day before a fan signing event in Daegu in March 2016, Jung Joon-young rap** a woman near the hotel.”

Moreover, the leaked KakaoTalk messages showed Jung Joon-young trivializing heinous hidden camera crimes, saying, “It was the funniest thing I’ve ever done in my entire life. My brother got caught for setting off the flashlight. Why did he do it there? Ah, that was so funny.”

In fact, Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon committed group sex*al assault against women in the presence of other friends. Yet, one of their associates joked, “I was surprised when (Jung) Joon-young hyung broke someone’s head when he fell.” To this, Jung Joon-young responded with a laughing emoticon, causing chills.

Reporter Kang criticized, “Most fans are women, but the true faces of those packaged in a gentle image have been exposed. But those faces were not humble; they were truly heinous. They toyed with women, rendered them powerless, humiliated and hated them. And they proudly boasted about such actions as if they were trophies.”
