Have you watched the new thriller series on Netflix, Mask Girl? I have a really good first impression of this Korean drama, and binge-worthy.
The story is very character-driven, and it doesn’t hold back. The first murder occurs in episode 2, setting the stage for the rest of the story.
I just started watching this new Netflix thriller series Mask Girl, and I’m really enjoying it so far. It’s a South Korean production, and it has 7 hour-long episodes. The story is told from multiple sides, which I’m really loving.
The latest Netflix thriller series, Mask Girl. It’s a slow-burn, I’m constantly worried about the next big disaster. The first episode doesn’t get too crazy, but there’s plenty of blood and murder by the second episode.
The story of Mask Girl follows Kim Mo-mi, she is an ordinary working woman in South Korea. She is insecure about her appearance, so at night she becomes a masked internet personality known as Mask Girl. She streams herself dancing and singing, and she quickly becomes popular.
But Mo-mi’s newfound fame comes with a price. She draws the attention of some dangerous individuals. And when a murder occurs, Mo-mi finds herself caught up in a mystery that she must solve in order to protect herself.
“Kim Mo-mi has always been insecure about her appearance. She is ashamed of her acne and weight, and she avoids social situations because she is afraid of being judged. But when she starts live-streaming as Mask Girl, she finds that her appearance doesn’t matter as much as she thought it did.
Mo-mi wears a mask when she streams, so her viewers can’t see her face. But they can see her body, and they love it. They love her curves and her dance moves. They tell her that she’s beautiful, and she starts to believe them.
For the first time in her life, Mo-mi feels like she’s accepted for who she is. She’s not perfect, but she’s good enough. And that’s all that matters.”
The multiple points of view gave me a better understanding of the characters and the plot. The story is full of twists and turns, and we never know what to expect next. But the main focus is on Mo-mi, and we see her life change in very unexpected ways.
One event in particular, which begins in episode 1 and concludes in a very definite way in episode 2, leads to her living a completely different life. It’s a life-changing event, and it’s one that I won’t soon forget.
One of the things that I found most fascinating about the storytelling in Mask Girl is the brutal honesty. The show doesn’t shy away from the dark side of human nature. People are selfish and can do horrible things, sometimes out of actual necessity, and sometimes simply to avoid the consequences of their actions.
This South Korean Netflix series is no joke. It’s not just about petty theft or people misbehaving. There are multiple murders, and people treat their loved ones terribly. Sometimes there really is love there, but the ones who are loved certainly don’t feel it.
