On May 10, comedienne Shim Jin-hwa opened up about her recent visit to the father of her late friend and fellow comedian Kim Hyung-eun, in honor of Parents’ Day.
She shared, “Visiting Father. Thankfully, Father is still healthy, and we still share a drink. I went alone today, but I was glad that our manager, Hyun-joon, accompanied me. The journey to see Father is always pleasant. Please stay healthy. 2025. 05. 09. Parents’ Day was yesterday, spent with Father.”
Even though she made the visit on her own this time, having manager Hyun-joon with her seemed to lift her spirits. And just like every year, her visit was full of warmth and meaning.
Photos she posted show her handing over carnations and a thick envelope filled with money to Kim Hyung-eun’s dad. Written on the envelope was a heartfelt message: “Father, thank you for Parents’ Day. Please stay healthy. From Won-hyo and Jin-hwa.” What really tugged at people’s hearts was the photo of Shim Jin-hwa and Hyung-eun’s dad smiling—both wearing the same bright, cheerful expression.
Shim Jin-hwa and her husband, fellow comedian Kim Won-hyo, clearly make a point of remembering not just the late Kim Hyung-eun, but also his family. Just recently, they celebrated the 90th birthday of Hyung-eun’s father, which deeply touched many fans and friends.

For a little context—Kim Hyung-eun tragically passed away in January 2007 at just 25 years old. He got into a car accident on December 16, 2006, while traveling for a performance and sadly didn’t survive. Shim Jin-hwa, who had been especially close to him, was devastated by the loss, and people around her were heartbroken watching her go through such grief.
