A fresh and fun take on the ‘New Three Kingdoms’ is finally here, brought to you with all the enthusiasm of the fan-favorite ChimChakMan.
tvN STORY’s new entertainment show New Three Kingdoms (directed by Jeon Min-ho) kicks off today (the 22nd), and it’s all about making the epic easier to follow and way more entertaining. The show dives into major scenes and iconic lines to break down the famously complex New Three Kingdoms story. The first episode, titled Trust No One, is already getting a lot of buzz—it’ll explore the legendary Oath of the Peach Garden and spill all the tea on the shady Ten Eunuchs. Expect a whole lot of intense mind games, wild plot twists, sneaky schemes, and some deep convos among the cast.
Right off the bat, ChimChakMan’s taking the lead, digging into the characters of New Three Kingdoms with his signature take. He’s bringing out his own drawings of Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei—straight outta the novel—and he’ll be breaking down who they are, what they’re like, and what they actually did. And because he’s a diehard fan, you’ll get fresh takes on stuff like why Liu Bei ended up the big brother of the crew, what secrets Guan Yu’s past might be hiding, and the real dirt on those Ten Eunuchs who had the emperor’s favor.
One moment that’s really gonna stand out? When ChimChakMan’s explaining how corrupt the Ten Eunuchs were—especially how they sold official positions—he drops this gem: “The Ten Eunuchs had price tags when they sold official positions.” Yep, he even compares it to today’s subscription services. Turns out they had a whole system, where people could pay regularly like it was a monthly fee, and some even got to delay payment if they were short on cash. That blew everyone’s minds. Choi Tae-sung and the rest of the cast were seriously impressed with how easy ChimChakMan made everything sound.
Yeo Jin-goo and Kang Han-na are also gonna spice things up by reenacting key lines from the story with their killer acting skills. Yeo Jin-goo’s no stranger to historical dramas, so he’s jumping in with his own theories about the power struggles going on between the rulers, and he’s got lightning-fast answers to all the quizzes ChimChakMan and Choi Tae-sung throw at him. Kang Han-na’s bringing the brains too, asking sharp questions about the characters, their time period, and the historical background, keeping the convo smart and engaging.
On top of all that, history expert Choi Tae-sung’s here to make sure everyone can actually understand what’s going on. He’s breaking down the big moments like Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei’s first meeting, the whole behind-the-scenes of their famous Oath under the peach tree, the chaos caused by the Yellow Turban Rebellion, the fight for the emperor’s throne, and what ends up happening to the emperor in all this madness. People are seriously hyped to see how New Three Kingdoms will shine a modern light on such a classic tale.
Director Jeon Min-ho even shared some fun behind-the-scenes stuff, saying, “ChimChakMan often comes to filming with very little sleep the night before. This is because he meticulously writes down about ten pages of talking points.” He also said, “Yeo Jin-goo and Kang Han-na, for whom this is their first fixed appearance on a talk show, perfectly predict the story’s developments and answer quizzes correctly, surprising Choi Tae-sung every time. The strong chemistry between ChimChakMan, Yeo Jin-goo, Kang Han-na, and Choi Tae-sung will further solidify New Three Kingdoms, so please tune in to the first episode to see it for yourselves.”
New Three Kingdoms is all set to make the legendary story feel fresh and fun, with acting, quizzes, and storytelling that’ll hook both longtime fans and total newbies. Catch it every Tuesday at 8 PM!
