In the 7th episode of tvN’s drama The Potato Lab, aired on the 22nd, So Baek-ho (played by Kang Tae-oh) and Kim Mi Gyeong (played by Lee Sun-bin) finally admitted their feelings for each other.
So Baek-ho’s Emotional Confession
So Baek-ho opened up about his painful past, saying, “Kim Mi Gyeong, I remember the moment I was abandoned. I’m not trying to justify my past, but I wanted to tell you everything. It happened at a train station. I thought I had just lost my hand for a moment, but no matter how long I waited, my mother didn’t come back. After going to an orphanage, my childhood was about learning rules and suppressing emotions. Accepting that I had no family or home was confusing and frustrating. Once I realized I was truly alone, I decided to focus on what I had to do instead of crying.”
He continued, “The more I set my own rules and standards, the clearer the world became. I’ve lived my whole life with principles as my guide. I took pride in being unshaken in any situation and believed my choices were flawless. But now, I often lose my composure and forget what I need to do. I feel so unfamiliar with myself.”
When Kim Mi Gyeong asked, “Because of me?” So Baek-ho replied, “Because I like Kim Mi Gyeong. I apologize if I caused any confusion. It was my own behavior. From now on—”

Kim Mi Gyeong’s Honest Feelings
Kim Mi Gyeong interrupted, “You’re a really weird person, aren’t you? What do you mean ‘from now on’? Why are you talking like it’s all over? I know you reported to the higher-ups that you’d fire me. I came here knowing that. I’m standing here because I don’t care. Did you think only So Baek-ho was going back and forth? What kind of crazy woman likes a man who says he’s going to fire her? But that’s me.”
She added, “I swore that if I had another office romance, I’d change my name to ‘Ant Mi-kyung,’ but I keep wanting to be ‘Ant Mi-kyung.’ I go crazy twelve times a day, and even if I do, the fact that I like you doesn’t change. I’m so ashamed and frustrated. Anyway, I know how you feel, So Baek-ho. In short, you’re so overwhelmed by Kim Mi Gyeong’s charm that you can’t tell right from wrong or focus on work? Then, So Baek-ho, don’t cross the line and do what you do best. I’ll focus on work for now. But when I become unemployed and you’re just the guy next door, if you still have feelings, we can officially date or not.”
Date Turns Into an Argument
So Baek-ho asked Kim Mi Gyeong out, but their date took a turn when they argued over work-related issues. Kim Mi Gyeong got out of the car, and So Baek-ho followed her.
Kim Mi Gyeong said, “I’m not angry. I just don’t think we’re in a state to eat and chat peacefully right now. I’m going to walk and think. Honestly, you’re upset too, aren’t you? Bringing up work issues and picking a fight.” So Baek-ho denied, “I’m not upset.”
Kim Mi Gyeong snapped, “Just get angry. Why are you so suddenly soft? Are you a soft peach?” So Baek-ho replied, “I’ll be a soft peach then.”
Kim Mi Gyeong teased, “Okay, I’ll give you ten seconds. Take back what you said about liking me and run away. I admit, even I think it’s okay to ditch someone who’s a mess from the first date.”
So Baek-ho retorted, “Then, how about we think of it as not the first date? We were alone in the emergency room the first time we met, so let’s call that the first date, and the second was the day you kissed me?”
Kim Mi Gyeong blushed, “It wasn’t a kiss, it was a peck.” So Baek-ho joked, “The day you pecked me. Well, that’s a great second date, and if we add it all up, today is about the fifteenth date, right? It’s not strange to have a fight once in a while, is it?”
Rumors and Tensions Rise
Rumors spread in the research lab that So Baek-ho and Kim Mi Gyeong were getting married. Kim Mi Gyeong even confessed her feelings for So Baek-ho to her colleagues.
However, the episode hinted at a deeper connection: Kim Mi Gyeong’s experience at Wonhan Retail six years ago is somehow linked to So Baek-ho, raising the drama’s tension.
