Action movie ‘The Roundup: Punishment’ starring Ma Dong-Seok has already heralded box office success with its pre-sale rate surpassing 90% on its release day, April 24th.

According to the computerized network for movie tickets, the pre-sale rate for ‘The Roundup: Punishment’ stood at 95.5% as of 8:00 AM on the day. The number of pre-sold tickets reached 834,000. This is higher than both the pre-sale rate (87.3%) and the number of pre-sold tickets (640,000) for the previous installment, ‘The Roundup: No Way Out (Crime City 3)’, which became a 10 million-seller last year.

In terms of pre-sale figures, ”The Roundup: Punishment’ has also far surpassed director Kim Yong Hwa’s ‘Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds’ (2018), which holds the record for the most pre-sold tickets for a Korean film with 646,000 tickets.

The pre-sale rate for ”The Roundup: Punishment’ has remained at around 95% even in the afternoon of the same day, and the number of pre-sold tickets has also been hovering around 830,000.

The film has been predicted to be a box office hit since it rose to No. 1 in pre-sales two weeks before its release on the 11th of this month.

Cinemas, including multiplexes, were bustling with moviegoers for ”The Roundup: Punishment’ from the afternoon of the release day, showing more vitality than usual. Some screenings at multiplexes in the evening had almost no empty seats.

Detective Ma Seok-do (Ma Dong-seok) and the district Police Station are investigating a drug trafficking case involving a app when they discover that the death of a wanted app developer in the Philippines is linked to a large-scale online illegal gambling organization.

The villain, Baek Chang Ki (Kim Moo-yeol), a former special forces soldier based in the Philippines, has taken control of the South Korean online illegal gambling market through kidnapping, confinement, assault, and murder. He is working with Jang Dong-cheol (Lee Dong-hwi), a genius IT industry CEO who is planning even bigger operations in Korea.

To catch the bigger players, Ma Seok-do proposes an unexpected partnership with Jang Eui-soo (Park Ji-hwan). The Gwangsoo District Police Station, as well as the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit, join forces to eradicate the crime.
