Actor Choi Dae-hoon dropped some behind-the-scenes stories from the drama When Life Gives You Tangerines during his appearance on You Quiz on the Block.
On the afternoon of the 23rd, Choi Dae-hoon—who’s been getting tons of love for his role as ‘Mr. Hak’ Bu Sang Gil in the Netflix series When Life Gives You Tangerines (aka Pogssag Sogassuda)—showed up as a guest on tvN’s variety show You Quiz on the Block, hangin’ out with hosts Yoo Jae-suk and Jo Se-ho.
Choi, who played Bu Sang Gil from his younger days all the way into old age, admitted he felt a lotta pressure, worryin’ he might just come off like he was pretendin’ to be an old man. He said he really paid attention to how elderly folks acted, watchin’ them closely in parks and on the subway to get into character.
He went on to say he thought about his late father a lot while workin’ on the role, sayin’, “Certain aspects of my father are incorporated into Bu Sang Gil.” One part that really hit home for him was the outfit he wore in that now-famous bicycle scene—it totally reminded him of what his dad used to wear. He said he was shocked when he saw the costume and just stared at it for a while before puttin’ it on. Then he dropped a touching story—his two older sisters in the U.S. called him cryin’ after watchin’ the show, askin’, “You took Dad’s red shirt, didn’t you?”
Meanwhile, tvN’s You Quiz on the Block is a show that follows Yoo Jae-suk and Jo Se-ho on their unpredictable journeys as they meet and chat with regular folks. It airs every Wednesday at 8:45 PM KST.
