Actor Song Young-kyu’s Drunk Driving Interview Resurfaces Following His Death.
A past interview by Song Young-kyu regarding his drunk driving controversy is making headlines again after his sudden death. The actor had addressed the incident earlier this year, expressing frustration over the circumstances that led to his legal trouble.
On August 4, Yongin Dongbu Police Station confirmed that Song Young-kyu, 55, was found dead in a parked car in Cheoin-gu, Yongin around 8 a.m. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of death.
The late actor had sparked backlash in June 2025 after being caught driving under the influence. Police revealed he drove himself home from Giheung-gu to Cheoin-gu, a distance of around 5 kilometers, after drinking with friends. A breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol concentration was 0.08% or higher, enough to get his license revoked under Korean law.
He was booked without detention and referred to the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office on June 19 for violating the Road Traffic Act.
In an interview shortly after the incident, Song Young-kyu explained what happened that night. He said, “I had called for a designated driver, but a friend came to see me. While we were talking at a convenience store, the driver left. The distance to my home was less than a 5-minute drive, and I made the wrong decision to use cruise control and drive myself, which led to this.”
The actor insisted the situation was unfair, saying he didn’t drink heavily and was already feeling unwell. “My friends were there, and we even called for a designated driver together, so I don’t understand how this happened.”
Now, following his death, many are looking back at his remarks and the timeline of events. Online searches for Song Young-kyu drunk driving interview, actor drunk driving case Korea, and Song Young-kyu death have surged as the public seeks more clarity.
