Shim Jin-hwa Says She and Kim Won-hyo Have Chosen a Child-Free Life.
Shim Jin-hwa is speaking openly again about her personal choice not to have kids, thanking those who’ve supported her and asking others to stop urging her and her husband to start a family.
On August 2, the comedienne attended the first birthday celebration for fellow comedian couple Kang Jae-jun and Lee Eunhyeong’s son. “Today, I choked up so many times and barely held it in, but I did cry a lot once,” she wrote. She showed her affection for the couple, adding, “Our Eunhyeong and Jae-jun are so wonderful. You both worked hard as mom and dad for a year. I love our Hyun-jo.”

Then she added, “Ah! We have decided to live well without children. Thank you to the many people who have supported us. You no longer need to encourage us to have children.”
Earlier, Shim Jin-hwa had spoken publicly about going through infertility struggles. During an appearance on KBS2’s ‘Rooftop Prince’, she became emotional when the topic came up. “There’s a reason I was upset while experiencing infertility. Many couples hide the fact that they are infertile. This isn’t a sin, is it? So, I appeared on TV and showed myself undergoing IVF treatment,” she shared.
Shim Jin-hwa, married to comedian Kim Won-hyo since 2011, continues to appear regularly on TV. She’s currently active as an MC on Channel A’s popular show ‘Men’s Life These Days, Groom’s Class’.
The heartfelt statement about not having children, made in connection with infertility and IVF treatment, resonated with many fans and added to the growing public dialogue on these private yet common experiences among celebrity couples.
