Early Life and Career Beginnings

Jung Eun Chae, born Jung Sol-mi, began her career in the spotlight as a commercial model. Her captivating presence earned her the title of “CF Model of the Year” at the 2011 6th Asia Model Festival Awards. However, she opted for a stage name to avoid confusion with veteran actress Park Sol-mi.

Jung’s artistic path took a turn when she spent eight formative years living in London, starting from her senior year of middle school. Upon returning to South Korea, her brother, who works at the production company Chorokbaem Media, influenced her decision to pursue acting. Her talent shone through as she landed her first acting role in the 2010 supernatural thriller film “Haunters.”

Breakthrough Roles and Television Success

Jung’s breakthrough came in 2013 with the critically acclaimed film “Nobody’s Daughter Haewon,” directed by auteur Hong Sang-soo. This role propelled her career and showcased her acting depth. That same year, she even released an EP of self-composed indie-folk songs, demonstrating her multifaceted artistry.

Jung continued to build her filmography with diverse roles in movies like “The Fatal Encounter,” “Hill of Freedom,” “The King,” “The Table,” “The Great Battle,” and “Maybe We Have Broken Up.” In 2018, she marked a significant return to television with the hit SBS thriller miniseries “Return.”

The year 2018 proved fruitful as she also starred in the well-received horror thriller “The Guest” alongside Kim Dong-wook and Kim Jae-wook. This drama explored the captivating blend of police procedural, exorcism, and shamanism.

In 2019, Jung reunited with Lee Min-ho, her former co-star from CF days, in the highly anticipated drama “The King: Eternal Monarch,” written by the renowned Kim Eun-sook. Jung delivered a powerful performance as the villainous Goo Seo-ryung, solidifying her place as a versatile actress.

International Acclaim and Recent Projects

Jung’s career reached new heights with international recognition through her role in “Pachinko,” the Korean-American drama produced by Apple TV+. This critically acclaimed series, based on the novel of the same name, features her as Kyung Hee, a supporting character. She shared the screen with Lee Min-ho, Kim Min-ha, and Jin Ha.

Jung continued to showcase her range in 2022, portraying the antagonist in the Coupang TV drama “Anna.”
