Red Velvet’s Seulgi’s airport sighting sparks debate over whether it was bullying or not.
Red Velvet Departs for Concert in Taiwan
On July 12, Red Velvet, the popular K-pop girl group, departed for Kaohsiung, Taiwan, via Incheon International Airport to attend the ‘K-MEGA CONCERT IN KAOHSIUNG.’ Reporters were present at the airport to cover their departure, where Seulgi, one of the members, stood out with her stylish outfit.
Photos Spark Online Controversy
However, controversy arose online when photos taken inside the airport, away from the reporters, were circulated. The photos showed a female manager wearing Seulgi’s heels, which were seen earlier in press photos of Seulgi’s departure outfit. The manager was originally seen wearing sneakers, but photos were also taken of her carrying Seulgi’s sneakers.
Accusations of Bullying
These photos sparked accusations of bullying against Seulgi. Some netizens, upset by the image of the manager in ill-fitting heels while carrying luggage, expressed their anger. Comments included:
- “Celebrities’ staff work hard,” said one user.
- “She could have prepared extra sneakers or slippers,” another chimed in.
- “The manager should have refused if she offered first,” argued another.
- Comparisons were also drawn to the Korean movie “Extreme Job,” where a group of undercover agents experience the difficulties of working service jobs.
Defense of Seulgi
However, others defended Seulgi, arguing that it’s unfair to label her a bully based on limited information. They emphasized the importance of context before judgment:
- “What are people even pis*ed at I don’t get it,” one reasoned.
- “The manager could have asked for help putting on her socks,” offered another possibility.
- “The manager themselves offered to switch shoes because they saw the pain she was in.. and antis yet managed to make it look like she abused her manager to the point she had to apologize to him and the fans. That’s insane. Seulgi you got nothing to apologize for! I feel for you.”
Regret Over the Situation
Apart from the debate itself, many expressed regret over the unfortunate situation and how it was handled.
Red Velvet’s Upcoming Performance
The controversy comes amidst Red Velvet’s ongoing promotions for their new album ‘Cosmic,’ released on June 24 to celebrate their 10th anniversary. They are currently scheduled to perform at the ‘K-MEGA CONCERT IN KAOHSIUNG,’ happening on July 13 at 6 PM, to meet their fans in Taiwan.
