MBC’s historical romance drama “My Dearest” is on a tear, achieving its highest viewership ratings yet for Part 2 on October 27th. With an average nationwide rating of 11.8 percent, “My Dearest” became the most-watched program of any kind to air on Friday.
SBS’s “The Escape of the Seven”, which airs in the same time slot, trailed behind with an average nationwide rating of 5.3 percent.
“My Dearest”‘s record-breaking ratings are a sign that the historical romance genre is still alive and well. The show’s strong cast, including Namgoong Min and Ahn Eun Jin, and its setting against the backdrop of the Joseon Dynasty are all factors in its success.
“The Escape of the Seven“, on the other hand, has failed to gain the same traction as “My Dearest”. While the show has a good cast as well, it seems that viewers are more interested in historical romance than in action-crime.
It remains to be seen whether “My Dearest” can maintain its high ratings throughout Part 2. However, if the show continues to deliver strong storytelling and performances, it is likely to remain the most-watched program on Friday nights.
