Filming of Kim Soo-hyun’s Drama ‘Knock Off’ Put on Hold Indefinitely Amid Controversy
Looks like Kim Soo-hyun’s drama Knock Off is hitting a major roadblock. Reports say filming’s been put on hold indefinitely, and the release schedule’s been pushed back too.
A media outlet reported today (the 23rd) that the production team for the Disney+ drama Knock Off recently told the cast and crew that filming’s being temporarily suspended, with no set return date. They’ve also pushed back the release schedule.
When asked about it, Disney+ told YTN Star, “We have no additional comments beyond our previous announcement that the release of ‘Knock Off’ would be temporarily postponed.”
This show’s a pretty big deal too—it’s a massive project with a budget of 60 billion KRW. Kim Soo-hyun’s paycheck alone for the role is reportedly 9 billion KRW.
Now, the production team’s apparently in talks about potential penalty fees because of the production hiccup. Word going around in the industry is that the penalties could go as high as 180 billion KRW—that’s three times the production cost! But nothing’s been officially confirmed.
Before all this, Kim Soo-hyun had already paused all his activities due to the controversy surrounding his past relationship with his ex-girlfriend, the late Kim Sae-ron. There were rumors about him dating her when she was still a minor and even pressuring her to pay back debts.
He actually held a surprise press conference last month on the 31st, where he denied all the allegations and said he’d be taking legal action.
Knock Off is planned as an 18-episode blockbuster. It follows the story of Kim Sung-joon, whose life turns upside down after the 1997 Korean financial crisis (IMF), transforming him from just a regular office worker into the king of the counterfeit world. Kim Soo-hyun and Jo Bo-ah are playing the lead roles.
