Agency Addresses Backlash Over Idol’s Performance
Cube Entertainment has issued an official apology following the controversy surrounding (G)I-DLE member Soyeon‘s performance of her solo song “Is This Bad B****** Number?” at the group’s recent Seoul concert.
The agency’s statement comes after days of speculation and backlash over the song’s revised lyrics (“Contract ends in November” and “No one can stop me”), which included references to the end of the group’s contract in November.
Soyeon Defends Her Performance
Soyeon herself took to social media to address the controversy, denying claims that the performance was an impulsive act without the company’s knowledge. She stated, “I didn’t write any lies, nor did I hide anything from the company. We rehearsed this performance dozens of times in front of everyone, and we created it together.”
Cube Acknowledges Contract Discussions
In their apology, Cube clarified that they were aware of the performance and lyrics beforehand. The agency also confirmed that the contract for (G)I-DLE is set to expire early next year and that discussions regarding contract renewal are currently underway.
The statement reads, “We would like to issue an official statement to apologize for the fact that individual opinions have been spread as official positions. We were aware of the stage performance and lyrics of ‘Is this bad b****** number?’ beforehand. Additionally, the mentioned period is indeed the end of the contract, and we are currently discussing the renewal of the contract amicably.“
